What it is about
El Héroe and El Discreto, in SPANISH (Farinelli's 1900 edition).
Context and history
Gracián's first two portraits of the superior man: the one who commands and the one who knows how to live among others. Prose compressed to the bone, conceptismo at its limit. Schopenhauer translated him into German and Nietzsche admired him; the Jesuit Gracián published without his order's permission and paid for it.
Editorial context, not a citable source: unlike the passages of the work itself, these statements cannot be checked against the corpus.
