What it is about
Hegel's lectures on the philosophy of religion, in German: the concept of religion, the historical religions, and Christianity as the 'absolute religion'.
Context and history
As with all of Hegel's lecture courses, he did not write this book. He gave the course four times in Berlin, differently each time, and the text we read was assembled by editors after his death by fusing his manuscripts with hearers' notes from different years. Modern editions have undone that fusion and print each course separately, because the differences between them are real. In this version, then, sentences from different dates can sit side by side.
