What it is about

The Way to Christ, by Jacob Böhme.

Context and history

An unschooled shoemaker from Görlitz writes, out of an experience he had looking at a reflection in a pewter dish, a mysticism in which God contains dark and light at once. This collection is the most accessible part of his corpus. Hegel called him 'the first German philosopher'; orthodox Lutherans banned him.

Editorial context, not a citable source: unlike the passages of the work itself, these statements cannot be checked against the corpus.
