What it is about

Morning Hours (1785): lectures on the existence of God, dictated to his son.

Context and history

His last book, written in broken health and read aloud each morning at home. It defends rational metaphysics just as Kant had made it impossible, and is at the same time a defence of his friend Lessing against the charge of pantheism. Mendelssohn died a few months later. Text in GERMAN: the original, and what should be cited.

Editorial context, not a citable source: unlike the passages of the work itself, these statements cannot be checked against the corpus.

The preview is hidden because the digitized text is not reliable enough. The full work remains available.
